I am an interactive design leader and practitioner with a passion for developing technology to create engaging and innovative interactive experiences.

Explore my role and methods for designing interactive experiences.

Interactive Experience Design

Interactive Experience Design is the application of existing and emerging technologies to creating unique and innovative interactive experiences and products. My focus is on developing strategic applications of technology to create engaging and memorable moments that excite and delight.

Approach

Envision - Explore - Execute

My approach consists of helping create a vision based on product and business goals and objectives, explore solutions by forging and shaping many ideas into playable prototypes to test and analyze promising solutions, then design cohesive and comprehensive solutions incorporating methods and practices from game and UX design and a deep understanding of the latest technologies and platforms.

Having designed interactive solutions for large scale, complex interactive experiences including theme park attractions, social apps, an Augmented Reality platform, and virtual worlds, I have the experience needed to craft a design integrating multiple systems, technologies, and platforms into a cohesive and engaging experience.

Benefits

First, by exploring many ideas and solutions using rapid prototyping, new and innovative solutions emerge. This approach has helped me guide successful and innovative interactive products and experiences ranging from transactional websites, games, F2P apps, AI driven applications, virtual worlds, and theme park attractions - earning 14 patents along the way.

Second, I save time and money by exploring and experimenting with various ideas and technologies using rapid prototyping and simulated scenario envisioning to uncover the most promising designs while revealing potential roadblocks and challenges before the more expensive and time consuming production process begins.

Central to my design approach is using a game design methodology to creating compelling and "sticky" interactive experiences. Having designed many games and studied game design principles over my career, I learned that any interactive experience can benefit from the deep engagement and long term retention of games. Check out how Game Design Thinking can benefit any interactive design project from entertainment to transactional products.

Building on best practices and insights I have discovered designing a wide variety of interactive experiences, I outlined a Design Process used to help guide the overall creative design effort.

Prototyping is central to the design process that helps quickly uncover and build on promising ideas for interactive experiences. Take a look at examples of Prototypes that illustrate how quick, simple prototypes can help communicate concepts and inspire new ideas.

Part of the rapid prototyping process includes designing key low fidelity user interfaces to imagine how customers will interact with the experience. I included a small sampling of User Interface Wireframes to illustrate rough draft wireframes used to test out interaction models, flows and patterns.
